JRM signs Almirola, Earnhardt JR Motorsports announced this morning that NASCAR Nextel Cup Series rookie Aric Almirola and NASCAR veteran Kerry Earnhardt have each signed a part-time contract to drive the #83 JR Motorsports Chevy along with team owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the 2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series. In addition, the team, which previously intended to run full-time, will only operate at the part-time level, due to sponsorship concerns. Almirola will leave the Cup Series and Bill Davis Racing to drive 8-12 races in the second-tier series, while Earnhardt will return to the series after having run the full 2006 Truck Series schedule with ThorSport Racing. "Bringing two respected drivers and combining youth with experience will bring a new level of depth to JRM", said Kelley Earnhardt, part-owner. "Aric will provide us with a fresh burst of enthusiasm, and Kerry will bring his restrictor-plate prowess and vast knowledge of other tracks and serve as a mentor for Brad and Aric, two up-and-coming superstars." The team is expected to run about 15-18 races, in addition to running the #88 NAVY Chevy with Brad Keselowski full-time. (NASCAR.com) (4/16/07)
