It was a clear night in Hutchinson, Kansas as the NASCAR Convertible Series made their 18th stop of the 1956 season at the Kansas State Fairgrounds.
Glen Wood led the field to the Green Flag in front of a crowd of 8,000 people but his stay up front lasted only three turns before Frank Mundy would take the lead. Driving his reliable Dodge owned by Carl Kiekhaefer, Mundy has been on a dominating roll, having won five times in eight starts and tonight was no different, as Mundy would lead every lap once again and scored his record leading sixth win of the season and fourth in a row.
Other Noticeables: Frank Mundy scored his 6th win of the year and fourth in a row, Mundy led 1 time for 250 laps, including all 250 laps, It was the 6th win of his career in the NASCAR Convertible Series and his first since Taft Stadium; 1 race ago, Don Oldenberg, who finished 11th, kept his points lead, leading Bob Welborn by 49 points

Anyway, Mundy also won the real race, but didn't led all the laps (only 154).

The field has finished qualifying for the 19th race of the season at the Missouri State Fairgrounds.
Bill Brown won the pole with a time of 30.997 seconds, beating Gwyn Staley by 0.117 seconds.
Other Noticeables: Bill Brown won his 1st pole of the year, Brown won his 1st career pole in the NASCAR Convertible Series in his 17th start, Don Oldenberg, who will be starting 5th, will be trying to improve on his 49 point lead over Bob Welborn

It was a clear day in Sedalia, Missouri as the NASCAR Convertible Series made their 19th stop of the 1956 season at the Missouri State Fairgrounds.
Bill Brown led the field to the Green Flag in front of a crowd of 8,000 people but his stay up front lasted four laps before he was passed by Gwyn Staley. With the past four races having been won by Frank Mundy and his Carl Kiekhaefer owned Dodge, a crowd of 8,500 people were in attendance to see if the streak would continue or if someone would break it. Much of the day would be led by Gwyn Staley and at one point lapping Frank Mundy, but the lone caution of the day would affect who won.
Having already made his pitstop before the caution, Mundy was able to get his lap back and start in fourth on the restart. Driving his way up in a mere ten laps, Mundy took the lead and from that point on it was the usual for Mundy, keeping his challenges at bay and scoring his record setting fifth win in a row in the NASCAR Convertible Series.
Other Noticeables: Frank Mundy scored his 7th win of the year and fifth in a row, Mundy led 1 time for 32 laps, including the final 32 laps, It was the 7th win of his career in the NASCAR Convertible Series and his first since Kansas State Fairgrounds; 1 race ago, Dick Walters, who finished 15th, made his NASCAR Convertible Series debut, Don Oldenberg, who finished 2nd, kept his points lead, leading Bob Welborn by 85 points

Jud Larson won the pole with a time of 17.790 seconds, beating Allen Adkins by 0.038 seconds.

It was a clear night in Norfolk, Virginia as the NASCAR Convertible Series made their 20th stop of the 1956 season at the Norfolk Speedway.
Jud Larson led the field to the Green Flag and would lead the first twenty laps as a slippery track led to drivers sliding off the track and causing multiple cautions. A big problem for many drivers was a muddy pit road which caused many drivers to be stuck on pit road, losing as much as one hundred laps while in the pits. Back on the track, Glen Wood driving for Wood Brothers Racing appeared on his way to his first NASCAR Convertible Series win but when the fourteenth and final caution came out with ten laps to go, Wood made mistake by spinning out just before the start/finish line, handing the lead over to Gwyn Staley.
With a clear track in front of him, Gwyn Staley was able to hold off championship contender Bob Welborn and Glen Wood to score his first career NASCAR Convertible Series win.
Other Noticeables: Gwyn Staley scored his 1st win of the year, Staley led 1 time for 11 laps, including the final 11 laps, It was the 1st win of his career in the NASCAR Convertible Series in his 6th start, Jud Larson, who finished 18th, made his NASCAR Convertible Series debut, Don Oldenberg, who finished 6th, kept his points lead, leading Bob Welborn by 65 points
