The NASCAR Strictly Stock Series made their 6th stop of 1949 in Martinsville, Virgina at the Martinsville Speedway.
Red Byron led the field to the green in front of a crowd of 10,000 fans and would quickly show off his talents, keeping his challengers behind him for the first thirty seven laps before finally being passed by Clyde Minter, who was making his debut. Minter would lead through much of the first half before Curtis Turner would take over on the 70th lap, and apart from losing the lead during pit stops, Turner was never challenged, as he would go on to easily score his second win of the season.
Other Noticeables: Curtis Turner scored his 2nd win of the year, Turner led 3 times for 121 laps, including the final 34 laps, It was the 2nd win of his career in the NASCAR Strictly Stock Series and his first since Langhorne; 2 races ago, Clyde Minter(7th), Al Wagoner(11th) and Kenneth Wagner(12th) made their NASCAR Strictly Stock Series debuts, Red Byron, who finished 2nd, kept his points lead, leading Bill Blair by 120 points

The field has finished qualifying for the 7th race of the season at the Heidelberg Raceway.
Sara Christian won the pole with a time of 21.845 seconds, beating Glenn Dunaway by 0.307 seconds.
Other Noticeables: Sara Christian won her 2nd pole of the year, Christian won her 2nd career pole in the NASCAR Strictly Stock Series and her first since Langhorne; 3 races ago, Red Byron, who is not entered in this race, has a 120 point lead over Bill Blair

The NASCAR Strictly Stock Series made their 7th stop of 1949 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at the Heidelberg Raceway.
Sara Christian led the field to the green for the second time in her career but just like with her first pole, she wouldn't lead the first lap as Glenn Dunaway would take the lead going down the Backstretch and he would lead the first two laps before Lee Petty would take the lead. Having not yet scored a win, Petty would be on defense as only one caution would fly during the entire race, allowing drivers only one chance at Petty. However even during pit stops Petty held a commanding lead and would go on to score his first ever NASCAR sanctioned win.
Other Noticeables: Lee Petty scored his 1st win of the year, Petty led 1 time for 198 laps, which were the final 198 laps, It was the 1st win of his career in the NASCAR Strictly Stock Series in his 5th start, John Wright(6th), Joe Merola(7th), Don Rogala(9th), Clarence Burris(10th), Lloyd Moore(12th), Curt Foss(13th), Nick Garin(19th), Ralph Zrimsek(21st), John Riggi(22nd) and Skip Lewis(23rd) made their NASCAR Strictly Stock Series debuts, Red Byron, who was not entered in this event, kept his points lead, leading Bill Blair by 120 points

The field has finished qualifying for the 8th and final race of the season the Wilkes 200 at the North Wilkesboro Speedway.
Bob Flock won the pole with a time of 24.482 seconds, beating Bill Greever by 0.034 seconds.
Other Noticeables: Bob Flock won his 2nd pole of the year, Flock won his 2nd career pole in the NASCAR Strictly Stock Series and his first since Occoneechee; 5 races ago, Red Byron, who will start 19th, has a 120 point lead over Bill Blair

Race #8 - Wilkes 200
The NASCAR Strictly Stock Series made their 8th and final stop of 1949 in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina at the North Wilkesboro Speedway for the Wilkes 200.
Bob Flock led the field to the green for the second time in his career as a crowd of ten thousand fans were in attendance for the season finale as three drivers had a shot of being the inaugural champion but it would be Bill Greever who would lead the first lap as the fans were given a great show as battles for the lead happened all day long. Three cautions would slow the event, all for minor spins, allowing for drivers multiple chances to make changes to their cars. Lee Petty would dominate the race for the second race in a row but with fifteen laps to go, Fonty Flock would makes a daring pass on the outside and would go on to score his first win of his career.
Meanwhile, crossing the line in 5th, Red Byron became the first ever NASCAR Strictly Stock Series Champion.
Other Noticeables: Fonty Flock scored his 1st win of the year, Flock led 5 times for 27 laps, including the final 15 laps, It was the 1st win of his career in the NASCAR Strictly Stock Series in his 6th start, H.F.
