Race #3 - Indianapolis 500

The Pep Boys Indy Racing League made their 3rd stop of 1998 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, in Speedway, Indiana, for the Indianapolis 500.

Kenny Brack led the field to the green and would lead the first lap in front of a sold out crowd at the track know as "The Brickyard" as just like previous events, cautions and lead changes would be the main story of the day as ten cautions would fly during the two hundred lap event and twenty lead changes. Steve Knapp, who was making his debut, took command on Lap 2 and from that point on he was the driver to beat, losing the lead during pit stops only to take it back a few laps later as he would lose the lead late to Robby Unser before taking the lead back and would never be challenged again as he would score a dominating win by leading 134 of the 200 laps.

Race #4 - True Value 500

The Pep Boys Indy Racing League made their 4th stop of 1998 at the Texas Motor Speedway, in Fort Worth, Texas, for the True Value 500.

Scott Sharp led the field to the green and would lead the first six laps before he was passed by defending race winner Billy Boat. Picking up right where he left off one year prior, Boat was untouchable was out front and pulled to nearly a ten second lead a one point, but just after the night's second caution came out, Boat's car began to smoke as the driver's Ignition was broke, and his shot of winning back-to-back Texas races was over. Scott Goodyear would lead briefly as would Robby Unser, but Kenny Brack took the lead on Lap 104 and aside from brief challenges by Goodyear and losing the lead on pit stops to Goodyear who appeared on his way to victory, but with thirteen laps to go, Brack took the lead for the final time and held on for his first career win in his 11th start.

Race #5 - New England 200

The Pep Boys Indy Racing League made their 5th stop of 1998 at the New Hampshire International Speedway, in Loudon, New Hampshire, for the New England 200.

Scott Goodyear led the field to the green as he would lead the first two laps before point leader Tony Stewart took the lead as he would lead for thirty laps before he was passed by Arie Luyendyk. Once in the lead, Luyendyk would build up a huge lead as a caution free race allowed drivers only one chance at trying to make adjustments, but it would be for not as Luyendyk would regain the lead after the pit stops and would drive on unchallenged as he scored his first career Indy Racing League win in his 18th career start.

Arie Luyendyk scored his 1st win of the year,
Luyendyk led 2 times for 164 laps, including the final 88 laps,
