Race #3 - Indianapolis 500
The Pep Boys Indy Racing League made their 3rd stop of 1998 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, in Speedway, Indiana, for the Indianapolis 500.
Kenny Brack led the field to the green and would lead the first lap in front of a sold out crowd at the track know as "The Brickyard" as just like previous events, cautions and lead changes would be the main story of the day as ten cautions would fly during the two hundred lap event and twenty lead changes. Steve Knapp, who was making his debut, took command on Lap 2 and from that point on he was the driver to beat, losing the lead during pit stops only to take it back a few laps later as he would lose the lead late to Robby Unser before taking the lead back and would never be challenged again as he would score a dominating win by leading 134 of the 200 laps.
