The field has finished qualifying for the 6th race of the season the Provimi Veal 200 at Road America.
Pancho Carter won the pole, with a time of 120.989 seconds, beating John Paul Jr. by 0.287 seconds.

Race #6 - Provimi Veal 200The CART Series made their 6th stop of 1983 at Road America, in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, for the Provimi Veal 200. Pancho Carter led the field to the Green Flag as for the second time in series history, drivers raced at the four mile 14 turn road course, as Carter would lead for the first fifteen laps before losing the lead to John Paul Jr. who would show his talent for the second race in a row and appeared on his way for redemption after dropping out late at Michigan, but a late race caution would set up a short dash to the finish. When the green flag came back out, Paul Jr. tried to block and fend of his challengers, but Mario Andretti would power by with sixteen laps to go and would build up an impressive eight second lead over the remaining laps to score his first win in over two years.
