Season Outlook : CART 49

Season 49 of the CART Series ushers in a rookie class including Jeremy White of Shameless and welcomes back Detroit to the schedule. After winning the championship in a shock sophomore campaign, Nicholas Latifi moves from Honda to Mercedes to partner Esteban Ocon and rookie Kathy Bates. Championship runner-up from season 48 Daniel Ricciardo similarly moves from the dominant Honda group into a new position with McLaren where he will race alongside Kevin Magnussen who has assumed a seat in the Frosted Mini Wheat car this year and series veteran Lewis Hamilton. Honda, under the moniker clubsport, remains the favorite to repeat their champion status as rookie Luke Mitchell, Dan Ticktum and Chase Elliott are transplanted to the team for the season. Nissan stands as close second in expected performance as works team Team23 retains Alex Palou and Pierre Gasly and adds Ryan Blaney in their pursuit of a season 49 championship. Representing real Indycar most effectively in the series utilizing Dallara OWR07 chassiss is Scott Dixon, who returns this year to the Waveform Ford team which he led to a championship in season 43.
