Marlin to come out of retirement and run part-time? Reports circulating around the Nextel Cup Series garage are indicating that Sterling Marlin is supposedly considering a comeback out of retirement to run part-time in the series next season. The rumors were apparently triggered initially by a tire changer on Denny Hamlin's #09 Dodge for James Finch's Phoenix Racing, sparking word that Marlin could team up with Finch next season. Finch, though, was unresponsive when asked about the possibility, saying, "I'm still trying to figure out who'll be driving next season." Garage-area insiders are speculating that the likeliest scenario would be for Scott Wimmer to run all the companion races while Marlin takes the Cup Series standalone races, as Wimmer will drive the full season in Finch's #1 Chevy in the Nationwide Series next year. Other possibilities for Marlin include Bob Jenkins' Front Row Motorsports and Joe Auer's Competitive Edge Racing. (MikeMulhern.net) (5/22/07)
