Bill Elliott running part-time with Hendrick
In a move expected to be a precursor of a future development deal with rising star Chase Elliott, Rick Hendrick announced that he has signed 1988 Champion and 2-time Daytona 500 winner Bill Elliott to a part-time contract in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for 2008. Elliott will drive the re-numbered #57 Chevy Impala for 4 races of his choosing next season, and will serve as a mentor to the young drivers in the Hendrick Motorsports stable. "I'm an old man," said Elliott. "I hope my fans don't expect too much out of me, although driving top-notch stuff like Hendrick cars will probably elevate those expectations." The 16-time winner of the Most Popular Driver Award is expected to choose the Daytona 500, but the other 3 races are reportedly up to his choosing and are not known as of yet.
