After two DNQs, Joe Nemechek is back to California Speedway. But it is not self competence.
In an innovative move, Rick Hendrick decided to swap owners points from the #24 Jeff Gordon and the #25 of "Front Row" Joe. Thus, both are guaranteed in the race (Gordon goes via Past Champion Provisional).
But one question was open: and Terry Labonte? He is also out of the top 30 owners and can be left out if he and Gordon need the provisional. In case, Gordon would benefit the PCP to have been champion more recently (2001).
It is a discarded hypothesis, since Gordon is a great rider in qualifying. But you never know what happens in Fontana.
