In an official statement, Citgo Petroleum Corporation announced that it will leave the NASCAR Winston Cup Series at the end of the season, in a decision with the company directors and Jack Roush, current owner of Roush Racing.
"CITGO helped us a lot in recent years and his legacy in NASCAR will be of enormous importance to all teams" - said Roush.
The CEO of CITGO also stated on the output.
"The CITGO thank everyone who supported us throughout this time. Need to focus investments in other sectors, and unfortunately we have to leave NASCAR".
The Wood Brothers Racing was also sponsored by CITGO for many years and also gave a statement on the departure of the company.
"We were sponsored by CITGO for 11 years and we give our thanks the company for supporting us all these years and supporting the sport."
Asked about a new sponsor, Jack Roush said he is looking for interested and said that both companies have approved the proposal to sponsor the #99 in 2004.
