The mythical owner of Donlavey Racing, Junie Donlavey, spoke at a press conference encouraging news of his team.
Donlavey announced that it has hired two drivers candidates for ROTY in 2001, Andy Houston and Stacy Compton, for a few races during the season. They join Jason Hedlesky and Trevor Boys on the team.
Another encouraging news: Donlavey hired the two-time Busch North Series champion and six-time Featherlite Modified Series champion, former Truck Series regular driver, Mike Stefanik, to run full-time in 2004, applying the ROTY.
But then came the bad news: Junie Donlavey announced it will close his team at the end of next season.
"I believe you have any idea how hard it is to own a team for years and years and not feel worn out", he said.
"Also, in 2004 I will turn 80 years. Spent a few years in the Navy and for more than half my life, I worked with motorsport. It isn't just the weariness of service, but also the age", he concluded.
But Junie also spoke about the newly hired pilots.
"Our team may not be as big, but we're trying to develop a good base for Stefanik. Hired Houston and Compton hoping to do this and also help them improve further as pilots," said Junie.
Junie has been asked to confirm two races with the participation of #90: Andy Houston will run in Phoenix and Stacy Compton will run on the oval of Kansas.
