In the 7 months since I joined this site, I've grown into one of its best members, mainly thanks to my job as analyst for labontefanboy's mock season project. However, despite my popularity here, I still couldn't help but feel like a bit of an outcast due to the fact that I, unlike everyone else here, did not own NASCAR Racing 2003 Season. Instead being stuck doing mock seasons with the next best thing: NASCAR Racing 2002 Season.
That said, I am excited to proclaim that, in a matter of days, that will all change.
Earlier today, I checked Amazon to see what pricey copies of NR2003 is was in possession of. But then I came across something I was NOT expecting at all: A copy of the game going for $45, plus $3.99 shipping & handling. $49 for a racing sim that I've desired for so long? That was an offer that I was not about to pass up!
So about an hour ago, my dad and I placed an order for the game, and pretty soon, I'll be taking my mock season career to the next level!
Before I wrap this up, I should probably say that there was another factor that coaxed me into going out and acquiring NR2003. During the process of re-installing NR2002 and getting my mock season equipment back after the arrival of my new computer, I suddenly started to think about how limited NR2002 was in terms of downloadable content in comparison to NR2003. For instance, there exists a program for editing starting lineups for your races in NR2003 (NR2003 Save Game Editor), but nothing of the kind exists for NR2002, meaning that doing Daytona 500 qualifying races in NR2002 is an impossibility. Also, carsets for the game aren't as high-quality as the sets for NR2003. Take for example, the 1996 Cup carset from NNRacing. It only includes 38 drivers, and lacks a number of notable drivers from the real '96 Cup season (such as Robert Pressley, Steve Grissom, and Kenny Wallace). The inability to download mods also doesn't help the game's case. This ultimately led me to the conclusion that doing mock seasons with NR2002 (specifically, real seasons) would be too much trouble. Thus, when I saw a copy of NR2003 going for almost $50 on Amazon, I was like, "You know what? Now's the time for me to upgrade to NR2003 and unlock my true mock season potential!"
Just to clarify, I'm not saying that NR2002 was not made for mock seasons. It certainly was made for mock seasons, but doing mock seasons on NR2002 isn't as easy as it is on NR2003. Right now, let me take a moment to thank NR2002 for getting me into mock seasons, and the fine folks of NR2003 Mock Season for sparking my interest in the project even more! I'm certainly enjoying my time here, and once I acquire NR2003, I'm sure things will get even better!
Once I acquire NR2003, I'll get all the tracks, mods, and carsets I feel can help me with my to-be-rejuvenated mock season career. I'm not sure how long that'll take, or when my first mock season with NR2003 will be (or what it'll be, for that matter), but stay tuned to this thread for further updates as I prepare to start my new life with quite possibly the greatest racing sim ever crafted!
