On Tuesday, after the Winston Cup race at New Hampshire, Bill Davis Racing announced its plans for the 2004 season.
For the first time in history, Bill Davis Racing will be in the three main categories of NASCAR. The team goes with Dodges in Nextel Cup, Busch Series in Chevrolets and Toyotas in the Truck Series.
For the Cup, the team chose Scott Wimmer to pilot the #22, in place of Ward Burton, and he will be a candidate for Rookie of the Year. Sponsor will remain the Caterpillar. In #23, BDR hasn't hired pilots; they will drive the car for a limited number of races, sponsored by Whelen Engineering.
In the Busch Series, Scott Wimmer gives way to Kenny Wallace. The team continues with the #23, but Kenny takes along with him the sponsorship of Stacker 2 for a complete season.
And in the Truck Series, the team will go with Toyota Tundras. While the #22 gets the afrodescendant Bill Lester, arising from the Bobby Hamilton Racing, the #23 will stay with Shelby Howard, who will race in all stages, except in Watkins Glen, Daytona and Talladega, where the car will be in charge of Johnny Benson.
The announcement also served to announce the support the Bill Davis Racing will provide for the japaneses from Toyota.
