2008 Season Outlook
It's finally all come together for Rocket Man. After showing an incredible amount of talent in his first few years of Cup racing, Newman was never able to crack the top 5 in points despite finishing inside the top 10 each year. But a winless season in 2006, the first of his career, seemed to drive Newman to new levels in 2007. While he didn't set any personal bests in the standard statistical categories, he was remarkably consistent in the Chase and finished extremely strong and capture the championship, the 2nd in 3 years for Roger Penske's 3-car team. The success did have an impact though, as crew chief Matt Borland earned himself a promotion to a management role within Penske Racing and Newman will have a new crew chief in 2008, Roy McCauley. But with Penske clearly having control of the title "Best Team in the Sport" right now, there's no reason Newman shouldn't again be a Chase contender this season.
