2008 Season Outlook
After slumping through his worst career season, was anyone surprised that Tony Stewart came back with a vengeance this past season? Stewart rebounded from a winless 2006 in which he missed the Chase and finished the lowest in the standings he ever had to post 6 wins on the way to a 3rd place points finish. Despite having those 6 wins, though, Stewart managed just 13 top 10 finishes, which is the second fewest of his career. While he earned 4 wins in the first half of the season, it didn't accurately reflect his overall performance. He won at a short track and a plate track, then won by using pit strategy at Darlington and by fuel mileage at Michigan. Outside of those races, he struggled mightily on the intermediate tracks until Chase time. Once the Chase hit, he and Greg Zipadelli proved to be a force to be reckoned with. Don't expect the switch to Toyota to affect that in 2008, as Stewart should be just as strong, if not stronger.
