2008 Season Outlook
Now that his short Cup career has fizzled out, once-promising youngster Scott Wimmer returns to a full-time Nationwide Series ride for the first time since 2003. Wimmer had moved to the Cup Series full-time beginning in 2004, and ran with Bill Davis Racing for 3 years before being sent packing because of a lack of results. He ran part-time in Cup with Rusty Wallace Racing but primarily ran in the Nationwide Series. He racked up 14 top 10s in just 23 starts on the way to his best points finish since 2003, running with Richard Childress Racing and Kevin Harvick Incorporated. Now, Wimmer joins the longtime Phoenix Racing #1 team in the Miccosukee Chevy with well-respected crew chief Paul Andrews atop the pit box. While Wimmer has yet to prove himself in Cup, he has pedigree of success between last season and his most successful year, a 4-win campaign in 2002. Wimmer can still get it done, and with a knowledgeable head wrench like Andrews aboard the team, they should see a fair amount of success.
