2008 Season Outlook
Ray Evernham brings his #9 Dodge Charger back to the Nationwide Series for another year with a slew of drivers, although all will be returning to the team. With no new faces, the team should improve upon its performance of 2 wins and 3 top 5s. Kasey Kahne, who drove 18 races and earned both wins last season, will once again return, but for only 11 races this time around. Joining him is fellow Cup driver Scott Riggs, who will increase his schedule from 4 to 11 races, matching Kahne. Along with those two are two development drivers in contract years. Patrick Carpentier, former IndyCar driver from Quebec, and Chase Miller will each have 7 races to prove their worth in the Nationwide Series. While Evernham has declined to comment on whether this rumor is true, many believe whichever driver performs the best will earn a full-time ride in the car for 2009. Because of that, both drivers will be up on the wheel in every race they start, and will likely see their fair share of accidents due to inexperience. But new crew chief Kevin Kidd has a good reputation as a crew chief on the rise, so the #9 team should perform fairly well in 2008.
