Not a bad race for me, started 4th and finished 4th. The top 4-5 drivers were pretty quick and I just could not catch them at all. After 30-40 laps I was still right behind them but the top 5 of us drivers had a good lead on the rest of the field.
Things got interesting though during the first green flag pit stops, I held off on pitting as long as I could and when i went to pit I was about 50 feet from the pit entrance and the yellow came out, so I quickly adverted back to the track and stayed out. This put down a lot of drivers 1 lap, but I had to pit under yellow and this put them ahead of me on the Green flag... So I was nearly at the back of the pack but in first position on the restart.
After the yellow Ward burton and 3 other drivers were catching me quick, sometimes almost 1 second per lap and eventually caught and passed me back with about 9 to go, I had a snappy loose car on that 2nd run after I pit and I just did not have the grip that I did at the start of the race. If I did not have that luck of the yellow I probably would of finished around 15th.
Ward Burton definitely had the best car out there, again this race not sure what Happened to Jeff Gordon but he seemed to park the car mid race and got a DNF, Ricky Rudd also a championship contender went a lap down but was the fastest of the lap down cars. Dale Jarrett and Mike Thomson had the best days of the top 5 in point standings, 8th for Jarrett and 4th for Thomson which will increase his lead slightly over Jeff Burton.
Note for this track: I used the newer 2012 version of Richmond.
DNQ:
#1 Steve Park may miss 4-6 races, Kenny Wallace will take his place
#90 Hut Stricklin (Failed to Qualify)
