2008 Season Outlook
With the Truck Series ending and the Cup Series switching to an entirely new type of vehicle, Bill Davis saw only one logical thing to do - enter the Nationwide Series. Davis will bring Bill Davis Racing up from the Truck Series, saving every employee's job, and use all the old COY chassis that are now obsolete for the Cup Series. He'll field two cars, one full-time, and one part-time. The #23 will be full-time, and two veteran drivers will share duties. Johnny Benson, who drove the #23 Cup car part-time last season to some surprisingly stellar results, will run in all 23 companion races, while Mike Skinner handles the remaining 13. The goal is for Benson, the 1995 NNS champion, to travel with Cup sophomore Denny Hamlin and serve as a mentor to the young driver who'll run the #23 full-time in Cup. While Benson travels with Hamlin away to Cup events, Skinner will race in the standalone events to keep the #23 high in points. With a boatload of veteran experience and a team that knows what they're doing, there shouldn't be any growing pains with the new series for BDR. This team should come out of the gate strong and post good finishes.
