2008 Season Outlook
Joining Hendrick Motorsports in 2008 is up-and-coming Stephen Leicht. Leicht drove for Robert Yates Racing last season and earned one win and a 7th place points finish, but RYR dissolved its NNS program and didn't feel that Leicht was ready for full-time Cup status, leaving him without a ride. Leicht reportedly approached Rick Hendrick about a seat, and Hendrick allowed him to run the #24 on a conditional basis. If Leicht is in the top 20 in points after the first 18 races, he'll continue to run the car for the remainder of the season. If not, he'll only run part-time the rest of the season. Leicht has shown talent, however, and will be paired with a solid crew chief in Mike Beam. With Hendrick equipment under him, it's far more likely that Leicht will be closer to the points lead than the 20th place cutoff.
