2008 Season Outlook
With the Truck Series dissolving, Kevin Harvick Incorporated's team is now focused on only the Nationwide Series, and former Truck crew chief Rick Ren will move up and crew chief the #33 team in 2008. As several large teams are doing, like Joe Gibbs Racing and Roush Racing, the #33 will feature a trio of drivers led by a Cup veteran. That Cup veteran will be Tony Stewart, who'll proudly pilot a Chevy in NNS despite him driving for a rival Toyota team in Cup. His friendship with Kevin Harvick along with his association with sponsor Old Spice allows him 21 chances to land a trophy in the 2008 season. His expertise, particularly in the February Daytona race, will certainly add to the KHI victory collection. Joining Stewart are development drivers Cale Gale and Tayler Malsam. Gale will get the call for 11 races after running 7 last season, as he prepares for a possible full-time 2009 campaign, though that is only just a rumor at this point. Malsam, meanwhile, gets the surprising call, with no career NNS starts and just one ARCA appearance last season. However, that one appearance, when he qualified 8th in a poorly-funded car, landed him enough attention to give him a full-time ARCA ride for this season and a 4 race stint with KHI in 2008. Because of the inexperience in Gale and Malsam, it's longshot for this team to challenge for the Owners Championship, but the team generally performs well and this shouldn't change in '08.
