2008 Season Outlook
Chip Ganassi Racing enters 2008 with a slew of inexperience across the board. In particular, the #41 Nationwide Series team features 5 drivers, with 4 of the 5 having made fewer than 10 career NNS starts. The lone driver who has is Cup full-timer David Stremme, who'll be in 13 races as the veteran at 30 years old. The 4 other drivers are comprised of 3 development drivers and one road course ringer. The ringer is Scott Pruett, who has never won an NNS race but has 3 top 10s in his 9 career starts. He'll be a threat to win each of his 4 races. On the developmental side are Scott Lagasse Jr., A.J. Allmendinger, and Bryan Clauson. Lagasse Jr., a short-tracker out of Florida, impressed in the ARCA Racing Series last year with 4 top 10s in 4 starts, including one victory, and will get to expand his schedule from 2 to 7 races. The California-born Allmendinger, meanwhile, will have 6 starts a year after getting a taste of Cup Series absence as an injury fill-in to Kurt Busch and as a part-timer for Bill Davis Racing. Those limited starts give him a huge leg up in terms of experience. Clauson, though, failed to qualify for the 2 attempts he made with CGR, but showed huge potential in the ARCA Series as well. He locked down a victory and 4 top 10s in 6 starts, never finishing worse than 14th. All told, this team is very inexperienced and will definitely have its ups and downs, but the potential here is sky-high, and it will be fun to watch these young starts develop.
