2008 Season Outlook
The #42 Chip Ganassi Racing NNS team is every uber-traditionalist NASCAR fan's worst nightmare: foreign-born drivers from open wheel racing driver a foreign nameplate. That's right, just about everything about this team is out of the ordinary. The main driver will be Colombian Juan Montoya, an ex-F1 driver who'll attempt 24 races. Those will all be in coordination with his Rookie of the Year campaign in the Sprint Cup Series, as he seeks to gain valuable track time. He pulled off the victory at Mexico last season to the surprise of few, as he is known for being a fantastic road course racer. What he still must work on is his oval track skills, but he is ultra-talented, and many believe he'll start turning the corner this season. Joining him is the Scottish IndyCar convert Dario Franchitti. After making a brief cameo of 4 races last year, he'll increase his share to the 12 races Montoya isn't running as he acclimates to racing with fenders as opposed to without. He's a complete mystery, but he'll probably have some growing pains at a minimum. Overall, this team could be very bipolar. One week, they may be very strong, the next week, they may be complete junk.
