2008 Season Outlook
Perhaps the bleakest outlook for 2008 comes with the #44 Mike Harmon Racing team. Owner-driver Mike Harmon, a stalwart in the back of the pack for many years, will field his own team full-time in 2008. He'll drive for 23 races while soon-to-be 59-year old Mike Potter will drive the 9 races at short tracks or intermediate tracks that race like short tracks. Rounding out the lineup is Ruben Pardo for the road course races. Overall, this team currently has sponsorship for just 2 events, one of which is Pardo's race at Mexico, his home track. With such a high level of competition this season and so many teams moving into either the Cup or Nationwide Series due to the Truck Series closing down, qualifying for races with no sponsorship will prove to be a herculean task in and of itself. But perhaps the bigger challenge for this team will be surviving to the end of the season. With no incoming monetary support and a low probability of consisting qualifying for races, the team is in a Catch-22 situation. You can't make the races without more funding and you can't get more funding without making the races. Because of that, a positive goal for this team is to simply survive as a business to the end of the year.
