As drivers head south from Richmond to Talladega, the rumors of what former NASCAR owner would return had seem to had died down after Junie Donlavey made a return last week. However once teams pulled into the garage area a new team trailer was parked there with a big number "28" on the side and standing there was legendary team and former championship owner Robert Yates with a big smile on his face. Despite the fact that Robert retired in 2007, the desire and drive to return to NASCAR was too strong as five years later the famous #28 car is on the entry list for the up coming Aaron's 499 with driver Jason Leffler signed on as his full-time driver and will be entered in the remaining races of the 2012 season after Leffler asked and received his release from the Robinson-Blakeney Racing team's number 49.
Currently Yates has sponsorship from Ask.com signed on for twenty events but the remaining races will be run with outside sponsors including Golden Corral and freecreditreport.com. "I think this is the biggest chance I've had in the Cup Series since my days with Joe Gibbs" Leffler said in a press conference "I am going to make sure I make the most of this and get the best results I can every single week." To date Yates Racing has started in 1,155 races scoring 57 wins and 49 poles and has one series championship with that coming at the hands of Dale Jarrett who won in 1999 and while Leffler might not challenge much for the title, you can bet he will work as hard as he ever has in his life and don't be surprised if he gets atleast a Top 5 here or there before the season ends.
