31 Drivers traveled to Charlotte to compete in the Sprint Showdown on May 15, 2015. Martin Truex Jr. proved he was ready to win by putting his #78 Furniture Row Racing Chevy on the pole position. Sophomore driver Kyle Larson put his Target Chevy on the outside on the front row. Rookie Connor Root, who had only competed in one previous NASCAR sanctioned event, turned heads when he layed down a 28.372 lap, which was good enough for a sixth place starting position. The 20 lap event proved to be full of action, with battles going on all over the track. Ryan Blaney proved he was ready for a cup ride by recording a fourth-place finish. Alternatively, Ricky Stenhouse continued to underwhelm the racing community by finishing 17th, finishing behind the likes of Danica, Bayne, and McDowell. Other notables included Chase Elliott and Josh Wise (last year's fan vote winner), who finished 24th and 31st respectively. Connor Root took the win after passing Martin Truex in the late stages of the race. After being passed, Truex had a vicious battle with Paul Menard for the second position that lasted nearly three laps. Truex was able to hold him off, claiming the second transfer spot to the all star race. Root, the winner, claimed the first transfer spot. Danica Patrick won the fan vote and will also transfer to Saturday Night's all star race. -Jayski.com (5/16/15)
