Just wanted to brief you guys on a couple of changes I'm making to the ratings system, in regards to crew chief changes and old age.
1. There will be no adjustments before or during 2008 to ratings due to a crew chief change. However, beginning in 2009, equipment ratings (excluding aerodynamics) will be affected by crew chief changes during the offseason. The minimum value will go down by 2 and the maximum value will go up by 2 to account for the inconsistency that often arises due to a new partnership.
2. Starting this season, old age will affect ratings. After the age of 45, all driver ratings (note: this does not include pit crew or equipment) will go down by 1 point for each year that goes by. For example, if a driver is entering 2008 in his age 48 season, each minimum and maximum rating will go down by 3 points. This is to help allow for gradual retirements and prevent a driver like Morgan Shepherd with no realistic shot at winning from grabbing a victory in a wild crashfest of a race.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I know it's been a LONG offseason, but me and my painting helpers are working hard towards finishing up the cars for 2008. It's been a lot of work but I really feel that it will make for a really exciting 2008 season. I've got other plans up my sleeve that should also enhance the experience (videos, perhaps?) next season.
In the meantime, we'll continue with business as usual. If you haven't finished your paint schemes, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get them in as soon as possible, particularly for the Cup Series. I'd like to have a full carset so I can do ratings and track.ini testing before we kick off 2008 while the NNS cars are finished up.
