Darnell to run full season in #60 for Roush Roush Racing announced this morning that development driver Erik Darnell will run for the NASCAR Nationwide Series championship in 2008, taking over the #60 Scott's Ford Fusion full-time. The Scott's car is currently driven by Carl Edwards, who remains a free agent for 2008. Darnell is currently the driver of the #99 Northern Tools & Equipment Ford F-150 in the Craftsman Truck Series, but will be relocated to the Nationwide Series due to the impending closure of NASCAR's third-tier series. "Taking over such a well-known and successful car in the Nationwide Series next season is a huge step in my career. I've been looking forward to moving up to this series for a long time, so I thank Mr. Roush for giving me his blessing to run for the driver's championship", said Darnell. Edwards has publicly spoken about wanting to run close to a full season or a full season in the Nationwide Series for whatever team he drives for next season, but with Darnell taking over the #60 his chances of doing so with Roush Racing take a hit. However, Jack Roush would not rule out a return for Edwards, saying "It's way too early for that stuff. Yes, there have been discussions and the Nationwide Series has been talked about. If it came down to it we could always expand or buy a seat from another Ford team." (ESPN.com) (4/11/07)
