Miller Lite signs long-term extension with Penske Roger Penske announced today at a press conference that he and longtime sponsor Miller Lite have agreed to a long-term contract extension that will keep the #2 Dodge Charger in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series sponsored by the brewing company through 2012. Casey Mears is the current driver of the #2 "Blue Deuce", named for the all-blue paint scheme that fans have grown accustomed to seeing over the years. Miller and Penske have a long history together, spanning over 30 years. The two first partnered when Miller sponsored some of the race tracks that Penske owned, and 1985 Indianapolis 500 winner Danny Sullivan's Penske entry was also sponsored by Miller Lite. Miller Lite has been the primary sponsor of the flagship #2 car since the 1991 season, which was driven by Rusty Wallace until his retirement following his championship campaign of 2005, the first championship of the Penske-Miller Lite era. Mears is in his second season driving for the team, and has already won 2 races this season, including his first career victory in February's 49th annual Daytona 500. "The extension of our agreement with Miller Lite puts our team ahead of the competition," said Penske. "This is an important day as the contract will allow Penske Racing to invest significantly in our people and our technology, two areas that are critical to our success. We've had a long and tremendously successful partnership together and I could not be happier to announce that it will last for several more years." (ESPN.com) (4/16/07)
