Wow, what a crazy race I would never of expected that. Basically this race came down to fuel. The time that the yellow came out made things very interesting.
The fuel window with my settings is 25 laps, but we had a yellow at lap 21... Some drivers who were not on the lead lap had to pit one lap after all the leaders or for other reasons.
So anyway, Joe Nemechek door checked me on the front straight lap 21 or 22, I was in 43rd at the time because I had a pit window plan to pit 15 & 30 laps, so probably 5-6 laps before everyone else... So I was working my way back through the field a lap down and when Nemechek hit the side of my car it brought out the yellow. I had very little damage so I pit with 1 lap to go on the yellow to try to make up by not having to pit again.
I thought for sure Jeff Gordon was going to win, on the restart I was a lap down so I was starting up front with the leaders, i was trying to stay ahead of Gordon incase the yellow came out I would be on the lead lap. We passed each other back and forth a few times but after 10 laps I stayed in front.
Around Lap 46 the leaders started to pit, they maybe could of made it on fuel but I guess they didnt want to risk it. Either way somehow Kyle Petty ended up winning... he was 20 seconds ahead so he didnt pit the 2nd time like everyone else.
This also worked out to my favor, being a lap down then pushing ahead of the leaders on Green flag racing... I passed all of them back up to 9th since they were pitting... The problem is I ran out of fuel coming out of Turn 3 on the last lap so I drifted over the finish line but lost about 4 positions coasting in the process, either way it was much better finishing outside of top 10 then in 43rd. If I didnt have that accident with Nemechek im sure I could of finished in the top 10.
