Jeff Gordon led most of the laps here at Martinsville but it would be Bobby Hamilton who would win it by 1/2 a second. Overall the first part of the race went pretty smoothly, I started in 2nd and got a quick jump on Gordon... I led a few laps but I didnt really have the speed to stay out front, I was running around 5th or 6th. Eventually we had a yellow and most lead cars went to pit, but I went into the pits crooked and only got my right sides changed... Later on when we had another yellow I would pit again for left sides but that put me back in 15th... I slowly worked my way up yellow after yellow and finished 10th.
This would be Jeff Gordon's first top 5 since Michigan 7 races ago, it was a much needed good finish for him. This would also be Jerry Nadeau's first top 5 this year.
Rusty Wallace moves up 2nd in points and Jeff Burton dropped 2 spots after another bad race... Gordon is still out of top 5 in points but moved up 1 spot to 6th. We only have 6 races left now so its coming close to an end of the 2001 season it is still close and anyone could win it.
