It was a clear day in Hillsborough, North Carolina as the NASCAR Convertible Series made their 3rd stop of the 1956 season at the Orange Speedway.
Dave Hirschfield led the field to the green and would lead the first lap as the 0..900 mile dirt track proved to be a calm event as only three cautions would fly, allowing for drivers to race side-by-side nearly every lap and put on quite a show for the 11,000 fans in attendance. Joe Weatherly would take over the lead early and would lead over thirty laps before being passed by points leader Don Oldenberg. Having gone without a win yet despite leading in points, Don Oldenberg would begin to pull away late before a late caution would set up a ten lap shootout, a battle Oldenberg would win over "Tiger"Tom Pistone and Curtis Turner.
Other Noticeables: Don Oldenberg scored his 1st win of the year, Oldenberg led 1 time for 67 laps, including the final 67 laps, It was the 1st win of his career in the NASCAR Convertible Series in his 3rd start, Gwyn Staley(12th) made his NASCAR Convertible Series debut, Don Oldenberg, kept his points lead, leading Curtis Turner by 42 points

Don Oldenberg finished 8th in the real race, which was won by Curtis Turner, who finished 3rd here.

The field has finished qualifying for the 4th race of the season at the Champion Speedway.
Jimmy Massey won the pole with a time of 16.388 seconds, beating Bill Lutz by 0.009 seconds.
Other Noticeables: Jimmy Massey won his 1st pole of the year, Massey won his 1st career pole in the NASCAR Convertible Series in his 1st start, Don Oldenberg, who will be starting 4th, will be trying to improve on his 42 point lead over Curtis Turner

Bob Welborn, who starts 5th here, had pole position in the real race. Jimmy Massey started 2nd in the real race.

It was a cloudy day in Fayetteville, North Carolina as the NASCAR Convertible Series made their 4th stop of the 1956 season at the Champion Speedway.
Jimmy Massey led the field to the green and would lead the first eight laps before Bob Welborn would take over and begin to dominate the race as only one caution would fly, for an early spin, with the rest of the event being a side-by-side battle between drivers as only Darel Dieringer would be able to keep up with Welborn and would take the lead with less then ten laps to go and would go on to score his first ever win in the NASCAR Convertible Series.
Other Noticeables: Darel Dieringer scored his 1st win of the year, Dieringer led 4 times for 24 laps, including the final 10 laps, It was the 1st win of his career in the NASCAR Convertible Series in his 3rd start, Jimmy Massey(4th) and Don Gray(16th) made their NASCAR Convertible Series debuts, Don Oldenberg, who finished 12th, kept his points lead, leading Jimmy Thompson by 49 points

The field has finished qualifying for the 5th race of the season at the Peach Bowl.
Larry Frank won the pole with a time of 22.277 seconds, beating Dick Joslin by 0.284 seconds.
Other Noticeables: Larry Frank won his 1st pole of the year, Frank won his 1st career pole in the NASCAR Convertible Series in his 5th start, Don Oldenberg, who will be starting 5th, will be trying to improve on his 49 point lead over Jimmy Thompson

It was a clear Thursday night in Atlanta, Georgia as the NASCAR Convertible Series made their 5th stop of the 1956 season at the Peach Bowl.
Larry Frank led the field to the green and would lead the first two laps before Fonty Flock would take over and begin to pull away from the field as he would lead the first quarter of the race before points leader Don Oldenberg would drive himself into the lead, and despite a brief battle with Marvin Panch and a pitstop late in the race, Oldenberg would lap the field and score his second win in the past three events.
Other Noticeables: Don Oldenberg scored his 2nd win of the year, Oldenberg led 3 times for 134 laps, including the final 59 laps, It was the 2nd win of his career in the NASCAR Convertible Series and his first since Orange Speedway; 3 races ago, Fonty Flock(4th) made his NASCAR Convertible Series debut, Don Oldenberg, who finished 1st, kept his points lead, leading Jimmy Thompson by 88 points
