One week after NASCAR's longest week, drivers get back to work on the 2012 season with the first trip to the Dover International Speedway as the championship race is getting hotter by the week and here are a few highlights before the event.
At Charlotte James Finch's secondary car, driven by Geoffrey Bodine, was a crowd pleaser as Bodine remained in the Top 5 all day long, led a couple laps and scored a runner up finish, giving Finch even more reason to be proud, his two car team has one win and Kurt is in the top twelve in points. Coming into Dover, the #09 car is 40th in owner points and Finch has decided to fill the seat with Nationwide regular Matt DiBenedetto, who will be making his Cup Series debut if he's able to get in the field.
Another team owner that is looking for some more good runs is Curtis Key, owner of The Motorsports Group. After much rumors his cars would be a start and park team, they made their debut at Richmond, Steve Park and Johnny Benson Jr. has proved that Key does have the equipment to run in this series as Park finished 5th and Benson finished 6th at Charlotte however both cars are still outside the Top 36 with both drivers having to qualify on time each week. Coming into Dover, both Park and Benson have finished 2nd at the track, Benson in 2000 and Park one year later in 2001.
Other noticeables:
R3 Motorsports continues to struggle as their car once again failed to make the race at Charlotte as Scott Riggs, who has a win in the truck series at this track, has been tapped as the driver this week,
Circle Sport has also struggled with more teams coming in, having failed to make a single race since Texas and are 1 for 6 in making races
Here are the betting odds for the FedEx 400 Benefiting Autism Speaks:
Jimmie Johnson:7-1
Jeff Gordon:4-1
Kyle Busch:3-1
Carl Edwards:3-1
Matt Kenseth:2-1
