NASCAR rumored to be making changes to schedule
As drivers head to Michigan for the 15th race of the season and despite the fact the season isn't halfway yet, there have been rumors floating around the garage that NASCAR officials are planning on making changes to all three schedules in their top three touring series(Cup, Nationwide and Truck). Here are the top rumors being throwing around:
Cup:
Schedule is rumored to remain at 36 races,
Kansas rumored to lose it's Chase race and be replaced with Road America,
Kentucky rumored to lose it's cup date and be run only by the Nationwide and Truck series,
Phoenix rumored to lose it's first race date and be replaced by Rockingham,
NASCAR is rumored to make it's first trip back to Japan for the first time since 1998 for a special season ending exhibition race; wither it will be Twin Ring or Suzuka Circuitland is unknown at this point,
Calder Park in Australia is rumored to have signed a three year deal to hold a exhibition race every year until 2015
Nationwide:
Schedule is rumored to increase from 33 to 35,
No tracks are rumored to be removed as of last report although Montreal's contract runs out after the August event,
Road Atlanta, Rockingham and Mexico City are rumored names being thrown around as returning to the schedule,
The lone track being rumored to join the schedule as a new venue is Sonoma, but track officials seem to be pushing against it and for a truck event(see below).
Trucks:
Schedule is rumored to increase from 22 to 25,
No tracks are rumored to be removed although Rockingham and Iowa have come up as possible tracks that might lose a date,
Darlington, Auto Club, Richmond, Sonoma, Gateway and Watkins Glen are rumored names of being brought back,
Eldora, Canadian Tire Motorsports Park(CTMP) are new tracks being rumored to join as well as Mexico City to allow the Nationwide and Truck Series to have a double weekend event
NASCAR President Mike Helton had this to say about the possible NASCAR schedule for 2013: "We are here to provide the drivers, owners and fans the best racing possible. We know the season is not even at halfway, but we are in talks with several tracks about future dates, it truly is an exciting time to be a fan with all the great racing we have in all three series, and we hope 2013, if there are any changes, will be as well. We always listen to fan input and that will be the deciding factor if we return to any former tracks."
Wither any of these changes happen is purely unknown and is only here say, only time will tell what the fans will say and if NASCAR officials will keep to their word and listen to them.
