One week after NASCAR's first trip to the tricky triangle at Pocono, drivers headed to the first trip of the season at the Michigan International Speedway
At Pocono, James Finch's Phoenix Racing rebounded big time as his drivers finished 2nd(Kurt Busch) and 9th(Bill Elliott) with Kurt Busch moving himself back into the top twelve in points and the #09 entry moving up into the Top 36 in points, guaranteeing them a spot in the next few races. Coming into this event, Kurt Busch has two wins at Michigan and Finch has tapped Bill Elliott once again for his 09 entry, who has 7 wins and over one thousand laps led in 61 starts at the track.
Among the entries this week is a fourth Richard Childress Racing(RCR) entry in Austin Dillon. Using the owner points of Joe Falk, Dillon will be attempting his second career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start with his first coming at Kansas one year prior where he finished 26th.
Another driver looking to make history at Michigan is Roush-Fenway Racing driver Travis Pastrana. Earlier in the season Pastrana tried to make the field at Richmond, only to spin out on his qualifying lap and was bumped from the field. Pastrana will again be trying to make his series debut, this time sponsored by owner Jack Roush's souvenir shop JR's Garage, but will have to make the field on time as the #60 entry has no owner points to fall back on.
Other noticeables:
One week after making the field at Pocono, Turn One Racing, owned by Stacy Compton, continues to struggle as their car sits 60th in owner points and has failed to qualify for nine of their ten attempts so far this season,
Robert Yates Racing who has six wins at Michigan, with the last being in 2002 with Dale Jarrett, will be looking to rebound after Jason Leffler failed to qualify at Pocono.
Here are the betting odds for the FedEx 400 Benefiting Autism Speaks:
Dale Earnhardt Jr.:5-1
Jeff Gordon:5-1
Kyle Busch:4-1
Kurt Busch:4-1
Bill Elliott:3-1
