Race #11 - Primera Copa Mexico 150
The CART Series made their 11th stop of 1980 at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, in Mexico City, Mexico, for the inaugural Primera Copa Mexico 150.
Al Unser led the field to the Green for the second race in a row as drivers raced for the first time outside of the United States and at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez as Unser would pick up his dominating performance from Michigan as he would once again show his talents as he was able to keep all challengers behind him for the first thirty laps before Tom Sneva would finally give the race it's first lead change. A few laps later the second and final caution would come out, allowing drivers to pit, now able to make it the rest of the way without making anymore pit stops.
With the green back out, Sneva quickly began to build up a lead, growing to three seconds, as Sneva would hang on and would score his first win in over a year. Meanwhile, finishing in 12th, Johnny Rutherford scored enough points to lock up the championship with one race to go.
