2001 NASCAR BUSCH SERIES REVIEW
NASCAR's secondary series saw an amazing season, with great racing all year round and a tight championship battle. The main contenders early in the season were Kevin Harvick, Jeff Green, and Jason Keller. However, this wasn't permanent, as Harvick took Keller out at Watkins Glen, signifying the end of their championship hopes early on. Greg Biffle, Kenny Wallace, and Jay Sauter put up some great runs later in the season, but could not catch Jeff Green. However, one man defied Jeff Green with only a third of his wins: Elton Sawyer. Elton was a very consistent driver and failed to finish inside the top 10 only 4 times. Elton won the last 2 races of the year and won the battle of Homestead. Here are the top 20 in points (Red = ROTY Contender):
1. Elton Sawyer - 4,954 points (2 wins: Rockingham 2, Homestead) 2. Jeff Green - 4,832 points (6 wins: Atlanta, Darlington 1, California, Charlotte 1, Michigan, Charlotte 2) 3. Kevin Harvick - 4,740 points (6 wins: Rockingham 1, Bristol 1, Texas, Talladega, Milwaukee, Gateway) 4. Jay Sauter - 4,630 points (3 wins: Watkins Glen, Pikes Peak, IRP) 5. Greg Biffle - 4,629 points (3 wins: Nazareth, Dover, Chicagoland) 6. Jason Keller - 4,547 points (3 wins: Nashville, Richmond 1, Dover 2) 7. Kenny Wallace - 4,368 points (4 wins: Darlington 2, Richmond 2, Memphis, Phoenix) 8. Bobby Hamilton Jr. - 4,152 points (1 win: Bristol 2) 9. Mike Dillon - 4,063 points (2 wins: Loudon, Kentucky) 10. Kevin Grubb - 3,969 points 11. Tony Raines - 3,827 points 12. David Green - 3,820 points 13. Jimmie Johnson - 3,803 points 14. Jamie McMurray - 3,698 points 15. Hank Parker Jr. - 3,538 points 16. Chad Little - 3,538 points (1 win: Las Vegas) 17. Randy LaJoie - 3,362 points 18. Ashton Lewis - 3,279 points 19. Larry Foyt - 3,005 points 20. Matt Kenseth - 2,974 points
