Race #4
The IROC Series made their 4th and final stop of 1984 at the Michigan International Speedway, in Brooklyn, Michigan.
FIA star Jacky Ickx led the field to the Green Flag but it was NASCAR star Benny Parsons who would make a move in Turn 4 and would lead the first lap as the main story of the day was that nine drivers had a mathematical chance of being champion. One of those drivers was Neil Bonnet, though his chances were very slim, Bonnett didn't hold back as he passed Parsons for the lead on the 7th lap and began to pull away but moving up from his 10th starting spot was Danny Ongais, who would pass Bonnet for the lead on Lap 30.
Once in the lead, Ongais played defense as he prevented both Bonnett and Cale Yarborough from getting around him and would hold on for his first career IROC Series win as well as scoring enough points to become the 1984 IROC Series Champion.
Other Noticeables: Danny Ongais scored his 1st win of the year, Ongais led 1 time for 21 laps, which were the final 21 laps, It was the 1st win of his career in the IROC Series in his 6th start, Danny Ongais, who finished 1st, is the 1984 IROC Series Champion, winning the title by 6 points over Gordon Johncock
1.3-Danny Ongais (21 laps led) 2.4-Neil Bonnett (23 laps led) 3.9-Tom Sneva 4.5-Cale Yarborough 5.12-Benny Parsons (6 laps led) 6.7-Gordon Johncock 7.8-Johnny Rutherford 8.11-Jacky Ickx 9.15-Derek Bell 10.10-Darrell Waltrip 11.6-Dale Earnhardt 12.2-Emerson Fittipaldi
Jacky Ickx-Pole Benny Parsons-1-6 Neil Bonnett-7-29 Danny Ongais-30-50
2 Lead Changes among 3 drivers

Ongais finished 4th in the real race, while Neil Bonnett won.
And for the record, Ongais finished 7th in the real-life 1984 IROC season.
Just another example of how unpredictable NR2003 season sims can be, folks!
