Race #5 - Mr. D's 200The Grand National East Series made their 5th stop of the 1972 season in Nashville, Tennessee, the site of the Nashville Speedway for the Mr. D's 200. Race #6 - Maryville 200The Grand National East Series made their 6th stop of the 1972 season in Maryville, Tennessee, the site of the Smoky Mountain Raceway for the Maryville 200. Tiny Lund led the field to the Green Flag but it was Elmo Langley who would get a run in Turn 1 and would lead the first fifteen laps around the half mile track as for much of the day the fans in attendance were given a great showing by the drivers with several cautions slowing down the action. Gary Myers would assume the lead early would dominate the first half of the race but just five laps after halfway, Neil Castles, who had spun out earlier in the race, assumed the lead and would pull away over the final 95 laps, but Myers would remain right on his bumper but ran out of time, giving Castles his second win of 1972. Race #8 - Fun Sun 200The NASCAR Grand National East Series made their 8th stop of 1972 at the Myrtle Beach Speedway, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for the Fun Sun 200. Elmo Langley led the field to the green flag and would lead the first fifteen laps around the half mile track in a race that tied for the most entries in a race, 30 cars, the same amount as Greenville-Pickens earlier in the season, a race that Langley had won at. Race #9 - Albany-Saratoga 250The NASCAR Grand National East Series made their 9th stop of 1972 at the Albany-Saratoga Speedway, in Malta, New York, for the Albany-Saratoga 250. Bobby Allison led the field to the green flag, but Allison would be quickly passed by Jimmy Vaughn, who would quickly build a lead around the 0.362 mile short track, as Vaughn would start lapping drivers by the 50th lap, while several drivers would drop out during the event due to mechanical problems, while seven cautions would slow the race. When the green flag came back out, Vaughn was unstoppable, never being passed on track, and only losing the lead during pit stops briefly to Tiny Lund for two laps, while Vaughn would go on to hold off James Hylton and Neil Castles to score his first win of 1972.
