The Winston Open Starting grid
Green flag! Top 3 advance to the main event Lap 7; Davey Allison is leading in front of Kulwicki, Waltrip, Mast, Skinner and Shepherd Lap 14; Michael Waltrip takes the 2nd place. 4 laps later he tries to attack Allison for the lead, but he goes high in turn 1 and Kulwicki regain the 2rd spot. Lap 28-29; Kulwicki goes from 2nd to 4th. Waltrip and rookie Mike Skinner passes him Lap 32; Header problem for Shepherd who was running 5th. He is out of the race Lap 42; Waltrip takes the lead on the s/f line. Battle for 2nd place Lap 55; green flag pit stops begins. Davey Allison loses a lot of time during the stop, while Mike Skinner cycled out 1st, but after two laps Waltrip retakes the lead. Lap 64; Skinner and Kulwicki pass Waltrip in turn 3-4. On the main straight Kulwicki passes Skinner for the lead Lap 76; Davey Allison sits in 4th place with +5'' from the lead, one spot away from advancing to the main event. Lap 109; green flag pit stops. Little incident between Mike Skinner and Greg Sacks in the pit lane. Unfortunately the #13 loses time for repairing the car losing the possibility to advance to "The Winston". Lap 124; battle for the last transferring position between Davey Allison, Mickey Gibbs and Terry Labonte. Alan Kulwicki wins the Winston Open! He advance to "The Winston" with Michael Waltrip and Davey Allison who gains the 3rd position.
