Season Preview
With Hendrick Motorsports dropping out of the truck series entirely and Jack Sprague being promoted to the Busch Series, we're all but guaranteed to see some new faces step to the forefront.
Travis Kvapil, Addington Racing, 60
The reigning Rookie of the Year looks to keep his hot streak going into his sophomore season. He scored his first win last year at Texas and looks to be a strong championship contender moving forward.
Ron Hornaday Jr. & Mike Bliss, Xpress Motorsports, 11 & 16
This is a team to keep an eye on. Bliss returns to the truck series after a stint in the Winston Cup and a 2001 with very little time on the track. Ron Hornaday Jr. is a series regular with two Truck Series championships already on his resume. These veteran drivers may have what it takes to build this team from the ground up.
Ted Musgrave & Jason Leffler, Ultra Motorsports, 1 & 2
Despite picking up seven wins last year, Ted Musgrave didn't bring home the Truck Series title last year in his first campaign in this division. He's back in the same ride this year, but with Scott Riggs moving up to the Busch Series, he has a new teammate in Jason Leffler, another driver with cup series time under his belt. Expect both of these drivers to visit victory lane this year and be championship contenders.
Brian Rose & Robert Pressley, Bobby Hamilton Racing, 4 & 18
It'll be a completely new lineup for Bobby Hamilton Racing, as the sophomore, Brian Rose, joins Winston Cup veteran, Robert Pressley.
Rookie Report
Bill Lester, Bobby Hamilton Racing, 8
Bill Lester has a full time ride this year, meaning he's eligible for Rookie of the Year. He picked up his best finish of 18th at Phoenix last year. All members of Bobby Hamilton's team will be looking for their first career win in the truck series.
Jason Small, Green Light Racing, 07
Green Light adds a second full time driver to complement Bobby Dotter. They managed enough owner points in the previous season to be able to guarantee a spot on the track for their second ride.
Brendan Gaughan, Orleans Racing, 62
After five years of sporadic appearances in the truck series, Gaughan finally has himself a full time ride for the 2002 season. He nearly pulled off an upset victory at Texas last year, so we'll see if he can find victory lane this time around and punch a ticket to the playoffs.
Honorable Mentions
Dennis Setzer (Morgan-Dollar, 46) and Terry Cook (K-Automotive, 29) return after finishing in the top ten in last year's standings. Both of them are among favorites to make the championship four this year and compete for the title at Homestead.
We'll see all of these competitors on the track at Daytona this weekend!
