Race #1 - Kraco Car Stereo 150
The CART Series made their 1st stop of 1982 at the Phoenix International Raceway, in Avondale, Phoenix, for the Kraco Car Stereo 150.
Rick Mears, the 1981 CART Series Champion, led the field to the Green Flag and quickly picked up right where he left off in 1981 as he built up a big lead in the early half of the event due to no cautions coming out, giving drivers only one chance to fix their cars. Mears would lose the lead briefly when he pitted on Lap 83 to Pancho Carter, before taking it back for good one lap later on Lap 85. Back in the lead, Mears was unstoppable once again, pulling away and doing something that had never happened in the four year history of the CART Series; lapped the entire field on the way to his 10th career win.

Race #2 - Stroh's 200
The CART Series made their 2nd stop of 1982 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, in Atlanta, Georgia, for the Stroh's 200.
For the second race in a row, Rick Mears led the field to the green flag and would pick up right where he left off at Phoenix, but this time he had more of a challenger as Danny Sullivan took the lead on Lap 6, only to lose it back two laps later, then regained it on Lap 9 and slowly began to pull away over time due to no cautions coming out, giving drivers only one chance to make a trip to pit road, during which time Gordon Johncock led briefly before Rick Mears took the led back thanks to a quick pit stop, coming out with a five second led due to only a two tire pit stop.
Over the last fifty laps, Mears's lead grew to over nine seconds thanks to lap traffic, and Mears easily scored his second win in a row.

Race #3 - Gould Rex Mays Classic
The CART Series made their 3rd stop of 1982 at the Milwaukee Mile, in West Allis, Wisconsin, for the Gould Rex Mays Classic.
Gordon Johncock led the field to the green flag and would lead the first laps before Kevin Cogan took the lead as he would lead for much of the first half of the event before A.J. Foyt took over briefly when Johnny Parsons took over as he dominated the race, leading 61 of the 150 laps but with twenty two laps to go, Roger Mears's Clutch broken, causing him to slow Parsons down, which allowed for A.J. Foyt to retake the lead. A caution with eleven laps to go set up a shootout, and as much as Parsons tried, he was unable to pass Foyt, who scored his first career CART Series win.

Race #4 - Budweiser Cleveland 500
The CART Series made their 4th stop of 1982 at the Burke Lakefront Airport, in Cleveland, Ohio, for the inaugural Budweiser Cleveland 500.
Mario Andretti led the field to the green flag but it was Bobby Rahal who would get a run in Turn 1 and would lead the first five laps as the tricky nine turn track was a demolition derby for all the drivers as points leader Rick Mears was taken out on the first lap, losing out a chance to score any points. A total of fifteen cautions would slow the race down, by the time the race was half way, nearly half the field was taken out. Gordon Johncock would lead for much of the day, but shortly after the last caution, Geoff Brabham took the lead and was able to hold on for the last quarter of the race and scored his first career win.

Race #5 - Norton Michigan 500
The CART Series made their 5th stop of 1982 at the Michigan International Speedway, in Brooklyn, Michigan, for the Norton Michigan 500.
Mike Mosley but it was Jim Hickman who would lead the first two laps as the five hundred mile race would be one of the most competitive races in the CART Series history, as while only two cautions would fly, the battle for position and for the lead would happen nearly every lap, keeping the fans on the edge of their seats. Mario Andretti would be the driver that would dominate the race, leading 139 of the 250 laps, but a late race caution shuffled him to the last car on the lead lap as he worked his way up through the field past lap traffic and the few remaining on the lead lap as he would catch Gordon Johncock, who had taken the lead with seven to go, and by the time the white flag was flown but was unable to pass him in time as Johncock would score the win by one car length.
