Race #6 - Canadian Tire 100It was a clear day in St. Edmonton, Alberta, Canada as the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series entered Round 6 of the 2009 season at the Edmonton City Centre Airport for the Canadian Tire 100. Andrew Ranger led the field to the Green Flag and would pick up right where he left off in Mosport as he would easily keep his lead right off the start, but unlike at the last round course event, Ranger had challengers as Don Thompson Jr., Scott Steckly and points leader Ron Beauchamp Jr. would all stay within two seconds of Ranger as they raced around the 1.973 mile road course ready and waiting for the right moment to strike, or for Ranger to make a mistake. Ranger would however act like the true professional road course ace he had been known to be, keeping his car on the twisting and demanding track, and over the final ten laps he would pull away by over three seconds and would easily hold on to score his second straight win on the road courses and his second of 2009. Race #7 - Velocity Prairie ThunderIt was a cloudy day in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada as the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series entered Round 7 of the 2009 season at the Auto Clearing Motor Speedway for the Velocity Prairie Thunder. Jason Hathaway led the field to the Green Flag as for the first time in the three year history, drivers raced at the 0.333 mile short track as it didn't take long for action to pick up as Scott Steckly was spun out on Lap 3. With drivers cooled down some, the battle for the lead and position happened, with Hathaway would lead for the first 44 laps before he was passed by Ron Beauchamp Jr., who would lead for the next 48 laps until he was passed by Andrew Ranger during pits stops. A caution a few laps later would set up a battle for the finish, with Whitlock pulling away on the restart while his challengers had to deal with lap traffic, and that was all Whitlock needed, as he built up a six second lead and would easily go on to score his first career win. During pit stops, Gaunt's crew took too long making adjustments to the car and actually fell a lap down to the new race leader Ron Beauchamp Jr., who would take advantage on the restart and pulled away, building up a lead of nearly ten seconds before the race's second and final caution came out on Lap 141 for debris.
