-Hank Parker, Jr.'s first career win. He was the only lead-lap car to make it without stopping after the caution (and the only car other than Ashton Lewis, who ran a lap less due to crash damage, and Mark Day for whatever reason).
-Tony Raines got his first top 5 since SoBo in mid 2000.
-Mike Skinner gets the #21's first top 10, prompting Mike Dillon to step down as driver permanently.
-Bobby Hamilton also earned a top 10, his first since 1993 when he was ride-hopping between series.
-Jeff Green continues his model of consistency, having not finished outside the top 10 or off the lead lap, but Harvick's more dominant approach (only finishing outside the top 5 in Atlanta, where he crashed) has him chipping away further at his point lead.

Highlights

Other race notes:
-Matt Kenseth's first win of 2001 came from deep in the field. He started midpack and had mostly no help as there was only one early caution.
-Kenseth didn't exactly dominate though, as the race for the lead was tight the entire way and even though he led every lap after the final round of stops, myself and Jason Keller were within a second of him.
-Kevin Harvick and Greg Biffle's top 5s combined with Jeff Green's fueling issue all but erased Green's lead he built after Talladega. He's still the leader, but it's a race again.
-Jeff Purvis also had mechanical woes that hurt him in points.
-Meanwhile, the rookie battle is heating up between myself and Greg Biffle. I haven't been leading laps but have consistently finished in the top five all year, while Biffle has shown quite a bit of raw speed.
-Unfortunately, the rising prices of the series are starting to take its toll as several post-entry field-fillers ended up in the race.
-Drivers making their first career starts: Jeff Streeter, Brendan Gaughan.
-Career best finishes: Scott Wimmer (8th).
-New team/driver combos: Kelly Denton (new team running the rest of the year), Mike Wallace (new part-time team), Stanton Barrett (Kevin Lepage's backup car), Brendan Gaughan (Kelly Denton's backup car), Jeff Fuller (Joe Nemechek's backup car), Mike Chase (Rich Bickle's backup car).

-Kevin Harvick won an uneventful race after taking the lead racing to the yellow and pouncing on the ensuing restart.

Highlights

Other race notes:
-Jeff Green gained track position early and held on for his third win a week after Kevin Harvick got his. Green extended his points lead as a result.
-Cautions plagued this event, contrary to how the season had been going to this point. Three early debris cautions were immediately followed by three wrecks, one in particular of extreme severity.
-Despite hard impacts by Tim Fedewa and David Green, they managed to be okay in the end.
-Kevin Lepage had a great run filling in for Jimmy Spencer, leading the first 22 laps from the pole and finishing fifth for the second week in a row.
-I finished second once again, and despite only leading two laps thus far (and those were during a pit cycle) my first win is very much in reach.
-Career best finishes: Stevie Hodgson (25th), Bobby Gerhart (31st)

Other race notes:
-Kenny Wallace dominated the early going, being passed shortly after halfway but losing track position shortly after due to problems during his final pit stop after caution.
-Cautions bred cautions early, as all six cautions were within the first 55 laps.
-The Big One hit on lap 20 when Elton Sawyer slowed and I ran into Tony Raines as a result while Randy LaJoie plowed into Sawyer's slowing car.
-Apart from regular attrition, field fillers were aplenty in this race once again.
-Jeff Green had yet another top ten, finishing third, but lost some ground to Greg Biffle and Kevin Harvick who finished 1-2 and each led laps.
-Attrition did its part: Tim Sauter earned his first career top 5 and top 10, even though he had to start from the rear; Ashton Lewis earned his first top 5 and top 10 since his stellar performance at Watkins Glen in 1998; Clay Rogers earned his first career top 10; and the remainder of the top 10 were all involved in wrecks, with Mike McLaughlin in two. David Donahue also earned his best finish since his first career start in 1992, despite running out of fuel while a lap down.

Highlights

Other race notes:
-Slow car controversy once again as Robbie Faggart triggered another Big One that took out championship contender Kevin Harvick in addition to other fast cars such as Elton Sawyer and Michael Waltrip.
-Greg Biffle and Jason Keller dominated much of this race, but Keller pulled away in the final run to win his second race of the year.
-Qualifying being rained out led to notables Mike Wallace and Dave Blaney missing the show.
-I had my second DNF in a row, finishing last after my engine blew up on lap 8.
-Jeff Green also had a blown engine, giving up the points lead to Greg Biffle, who also took advantage of Harvick's woes to open it up quite a bit.
-Randy LaJoie seemed to make a case for victory, but a bad final pit stop and poor-handling car in the final run relegated him to 10th.
-Jimmie Johnson took advantage of a strong car and attrition to finally earn his first career top-5. Kevin Lepage also earned his third consecutive fifth-place finish (after skipping Nazareth).

-Greg Biffle led a whopping 92 laps, even more impressive considering he led every green-flag lap aside from the round of pit stops. He extended his points lead as a result.
-The only incident of the day was an early single-car spin by Mike Skinner, who recovered nicely to finish ninth. The other caution was a competition caution. There was an incident during green-flag stops involving Tim Sauter and Elton Sawyer but no caution came of that and Sawyer still ended up with his first top-5 since Daytona.
-Field fillers continue making their mark, as that combined with a few legitimate mechanical woes resulted in nine DNFs despite the lack of incidents.

Highlights

Other race notes:

-Kevin Harvick led much of the first 81 laps, but faded at the end. Jeff Green took the lead at the end of the second-to-last run, but strategy allowed me to earn my first career win.
-A.J. Alsup was involved in both major incidents. He was spun by Clay Rogers on lap 1 with no caution, then spun Dick Trickle on lap 26 for the only caution.
-Ricky Hendrick ran out of fuel late in the going trying to stretch his mileage, even though there was no statistical way he could make it.
-Tim Sauter received a severe penalty upon discovery of holes in his roof cage during post-race inspection. He was disqualified to 43rd, deducted 50 points, fines were handed out, and his team owner was banned for one year. In the wake of some severe wrecks in 2001 alone, with Earnhardt's death and the David Green/Tim Fedewa incident at New Hampshire, NASCAR stepping in was positive news for just about everyone but Steve Coulter.
-Jimmie Johnson seems to have momentum going his way with his second top-5 in three races after a rather slow start. This one wasn't aided by attrition in the slightest--he had a fantastic car.
-Travis Kvapil also turned some heads, filling in for Mike Skinner while at Pocono and running top-10 all race in his first BGN start.
-Rich Bickle earned his first top-10 of the year and best finish since Myrtle Beach last year after a painfully mediocre season to date.
-Tim Fedewa, recently fired from his Cicci-Welliver ride, earned his first top-5 since Memphis last year in his new Buckshot Racing ride.
-Drivers making their first career starts: Travis Kvapil, A.J. Alsup
-New team/driver combos: Tim Fedewa (recently fired from his old ride, meant to be a one-off but a good run has already added him some races), Travis Kvapil (one-off filling in for Mike Skinner who's at Pocono), Geoffrey Bodine (replacing Fedewa), Phil Parsons (one-off for Curb-Agajanian), Kerry Earnhardt (running a few races for Michael Waltrip to show his talents), Joe Ruttman (running a few non-companion races in place of Jimmy Spencer), Dick Trickle (yet another one-off for Jay Robinson), Ronnie Hornaday (one-off in a second Foyt Racing car), Jeff Fuller (one-off attempt but wrecked in practice so withdrew), Derrike Cope (plans on running a few races with the new #94 that ran at Nazareth but withdrew).

Highlights

Other race notes:
-Kevin Harvick dominated from the pole for the second race in a row, but this time closed the deal. He won by 12 seconds and lapped all but 11.
-He took over the points lead after Greg Biffle had an incident on pit road. Jeff Green also had issues that cost him major ground.
-The only major incident was when Bobby Hamilton, Jr.'s car stalled and Larry Foyt plowed into him.
-I was the cause of the second and final caution, then blew my ignition on the ensuing restart.
-Matt Kenseth and Randy LaJoie came from deep in the field to record top-5s. LaJoie's in particular was important to salvage a dismal season.
-Tim Fedewa earned his second consecutive top-10 for Buckshot Racing in his second start with the team. This was a late addition so he unfortunately didn't receive points, but he's still making a case for himself.
-Elton Sawyer's making a good attempt at bouncing back from early-season woes with his third consecutive top 10. Jimmie Johnson also has two in a row now.
-Another short field full of valets continues concern among top team owners. This happened even with post-entries and new teams/drivers.
-Drivers making their first career starts: Brian Vickers.
-New team/driver combos: Ron Hornaday, Jr. (temporarily relieving Marty Houston, and was strong early but faded greatly in the final run), Brian Vickers (new young driver for family owned team), Billy Parker (Hank's brother, running a few races for ppc), Joe Bush (running a couple races with the new 94 team), Lance Hooper (parked Kelly Denton's backup).
-Teams shutting down after this race: #18 (a very controversial move by Joe Gibbs. Despite Jeff Purvis being 200 points ahead of Mike McLaughlin, Gibbs decided to release Purvis, citing reversing trends. Purvis has just one top-10 since California after a very strong start, while McLaughlin has 3, on top of comparably pitiful luck. Gibbs also cited McLaughlin's incredible drive at Nazareth, finishing tenth despite being involved in several incidents not of his doing and starting from the back. The #18's owners points will still be used).
