I wonder how different people do Qualifying sessions for their mock seasons. I've seen some do qualifying car by car like IRL, some just let NR2003 do its thing, some simulate results. My personal method is to split the entry list in half and run 2 identical Q sessions, and combine times at the end. This allows for every car to post a time, while keeping the process relatively quick.

In my mock season, I just let NR2003 do it's thing. I used to do that, but I found issues with realistic accuracy since mine is based in reality, with big names like Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart failing to make the race sometimes(unrealistic in the top 35 era, and highly unlikely during the provisional era unless they were a new team/expansion.)
Also since NR2003 only picks the top 42 strongest cars stats wise, it means that unless your ratings are super close or have huge ranges, some drivers will likely NEVER show up in a 42 car field even if used in all 36 races, and if they do, it might be twice at most, considering a realistic entry list of 46-48 cars.(this is from testing with IRL Ratings from NRatings, custom ratings can alleviate this to an extent)

I alternate between 1 n 2 lap runs but usually let it run without accelerating time.

why two sessions?

why two sessions? Because NR2003 only lets 42 AI run at a time, and if I want 50-somewhat cars to qualify, NR2003 would only have 42 run. So to ensure every car gets a simulated qualifying time and to ensure fairness, I split the field in half, run 2 identical qualifying sessions, combine the times into one chart, create a race roster and re-simulate qualifying with the race roster, then set the starting grid using the starting grid manager based on the qualifying order from the 2 sessions.
Say if there were 50 cars numbered 1-50 I would have cars 1-25 in session one, and 26-50 in session 2.
Then I add them to one table sorted fastest to slowest
Then I weed out the go-or-go-homers until the 7 fastest cars outside the top 35 remain.
The I take the 42 car field, create a roster in NRatings, then go into Nr2003, simulate a qu session, save the session, and exit the game.
Then I re-order the field using NR2003 Starting Grid Manager to match the qualifying times.
Then I enter NR2003, continue the existing session, and simulate the race itself.
Seems like a lot of work, but I pride myself on trying to be as accurate as possible, and running 50+ cars individually would take even longer. This ensures the top 35 always make the show, while every go-or-go-homer gets a shot at posting a time fast enough to make the field.
The issue with letting NR2003 do its thing is drivers who would not DNQ IRL failing to make the show, and the fact that due to labontefanboy's ratings system, Rookies are more likely to qualify for races, even in crapcan cars than veteran drivers in the same car due to them having a potential 85 max, which makes NR2003 prioritize them due to their higher stats. When 42 cars are pre-selected, sometimes you get fast cars at the back and slow cars towards the front, but a driver who might in a simulated session end up 30th and in the show would not even be selected because a rookie in the same car is "stronger" on paper.

That is super smart.

I run carsets with flat 40-60 races and tweak the track and papy ai settings for fun. Its all about what you are more in the mood for long term, watching the cars going around or making elaborate administrative schemas or keeping stats even.
