"They will use the #20 teams owners points to lock Leffler into the first 50 races as Tony Stewart has the Past Champions Provisional at his disposal to guarantee himself into the field races." Damn, you're doing a great job implementing the charter system early!

Welcome to today's running of the 2005 Gatorade Duels at Daytona! Today's twin 60 lap events will set the starting field for the Daytona 500. For some teams this is a chance to dial in their cars in the draft, while for others, this could make or break their seasons. Today a field of 57 will be whittled down to just 42, lets go trackside for the race!
The front row for duel #1 saw Jeff Gordon, the man who will start 1st in the 500, and Ryan Newman. The early laps saw a fair amount of shuffling, as typical of SuperSpeedway events. Leading the race for more than a few laps was neigh impossible, and several cars fought up and down the field.
Lap 9 would see our fist caution when Jeremy Mayfield and Kyle Petty got together and wiped out through he tri-oval, damaging several cars including Kyle Busch, Scott Riggs, Dale Jarrett, and Bobby Hamilton Jr. This event would see the end of the Daytona 500 hopes of Kenny Wallace and Stanton Barrett. A few damaged cars would come down pit road for repairs.
Carl Edwards would lead us to the restart on lap 14 as the field would jockey for position. Boris Said would prove a strong runner throughout the mid portion of the race, as would Jamie McMurray and Scott Wimmer. The pack would be broken up by Andy Belmont's damaged car.
Lap 38 would see the pit cycle start to occur, and as the laps wound down and the field sorted its way through traffic, the lead was never certain for anyone, as every slow car would stir the pot again. But as the checkered flag fell, Jamie McMurray brought the Texaco Havoline Dodge home to take the win.
The transfer spots would fall to Mike SKinner who was contending for the win, and Kerry Earnhardt would take the second and final spot in the field with a 9th place run, just seconds ahead of Boris Said, who will go home empty handed.

Welcome to Duel #2 here at the Daytona International Speedway. Half the field has been set, but we still got 150 miles to go before we know who starts where! Tony Stewart and teammate Bobby Labonte will lead us to the flag today, so buckle up, and enjoy the ride.
The early going saw the usual shuffling that occurs on the superspeedway tracks with Rooke Travis Kvapil showing strength throuout the run, as cars sizez each other up jockeying for track position.
Lap 23 would see the yellow come out as rain clouds that were lingering around the track started to trickle down, putting us under yellow, but as soon as it had come, it had stopped, and the track crews managed to dry up the track in no time. Pitstops would shuffle the field.
The race would restart on lap 27 with Tony Stewart on the point, but quickly it would be Johnson taking control for several circuits, before being contested by Ricky Rudd, and soon after the rest of the pack. Rusty Wallace would find himself up front with 1 to go, and would use the lap car of Eric McClure to break up a run from the DEI teammates of Dale Earnhardt and Martin Truex Jr. to claim victory.

Well, I've done fucked up again. As I was going thru the starting grid, I realized I had failed to balance the locked in and go-or-go-home divers properly, leading to a skewed field. This means I have to redo the duels all over again.
Also despite me really wanting to do this and make it a long term thing, I'm struggling to really get it moving. It isn't garnering much attention, and having had to restart about 3 times over, I'm starting to get frustrated. There are so many ideas I want to do, but at this pace, it will never get done. I have tried so many different things, that I'm lost on how the best way to go about it is.
I want to go more into detail on the recaps, and have photos. I want to even do video recaps. But the more I'm stuck on 2005, the less motivation I have. I may just do 2005 on my own, and start recapping in 2006, where this whole thing truly starts to diverge into the alternate history I love so much.
Mock seasons also don't seem to garner much attention, for the effort I'm putting in, and have been on a slow decline since LabonteFanboy's stuff stopped around 2015. I'm still fiddling with stuff, but I may tak another sizable break to figure out what the hell I'm doing with this.
