1986 NASCAR Winston Modified Tour

Race #16 - Winston 100

The NASCAR Winston Modified Tour made their 16th stop of 1986 at the Thompson Speedway, in Thompson, Connecticut, for the Winston 100.

Dave Rezendes led the field to the green flag but it was Brian Ross who would lead the first three laps around the 0.625 mile track before Rezendes would retake the lead back on Lap 4, as Rezendes would build up a lead over the first quarter of the race before he was chased down by Mike McLaughlin on Lap 23. McLaughlin would lead for less than ten laps before he was passed by Bill Gratton on Lap 32. Gratton would lead for the next twenty four laps before McLaughlin would retake the lead on Lap 56 before the final caution would fly just two laps later on Lap 58. McLaughlin would remain on defense over the final half of the race, keeping Gratton and points leader George Kent Jr. behind him and would score his second win of 1986.

Race #17 - Miller American 200

The NASCAR Winston Modified Tour made their 17th stop of 1986 at the Riverhead Raceway, in Riverhead, New York, for the Miller American 200.

Tom Baldwin led the field to the green flag but it was Bill Park who got a run on the outside, who would lead the first laps around the quarter mile track as Park would hold command of the race for the first half of the race until the race's lone caution came out on Lap 58, losing the lead briefly to Ken Bouchard during pit stops. When the green flag came back out, Park would be challenged by Jimmy Spencer, who would the lead three times within the span of twenty laps before Spencer would pull away and would dominate the last half of the race, having to hold off a hard charging Ken Bouchard to score his first win in almost a year.

Race #18 - Pentax 200

The NASCAR Winston Modified Tour made their 18th stop of 1986 at the Stafford Motor Speedway, in Stafford Springs, Connecticut, for the Pentax 200.

Brian Ross led the field to the green flag but it was George Brunnhoelzl Jr. who would lead the first laps around the half mile track as a rash of four cautions in the first hundred laps would keep the drivers close, with Rick Fuller assuming the lead during pit stops but would quickly lose it back to Brunnhoelzl Jr., who would be the dominator of the race, not being passed under green and would lead all but seven laps to score his second win of 1986.

Race #19 - Winston 300

The NASCAR Winston Modified Tour made their 19th stop of 1986 at the Thompson Speedway, in Thompson, Connecticut, for the Winston 300.

Jimmy Spencer led the field to the green flag and would quickly begin to build up a lead around the 0.625 mile track as Spencer would command the first quarter of the race before George Brunnhoelzl Jr. would make his presents known, taking the lead for the first time on Lap 55 and would be the dominate car of the race, leading 157 of the event's 302 laps as a rash of cautions during the mid half of the race would keep the field close to each other as the lead would swap a total of nine times over the first two hundred laps with Carl Pasteryak assuming the lead late and it appeared he would go on to score his first career win, under a caution came out just before the white flag, sending the race into a Green, White, Checkered finish.

Pasteryak would stumble on the start, which allowed for Jimmy Spencer to clear him going into one and would be on defense for the last lap and a half and would easily hold off Pasteryak for his third win of 1986 as well as take over the points lead.
