Evernham resigns with Dodge Ray Evernham, owner of Evernham Motorsports, announced today that his 3-car Nextel Cup Series operation will continue to field Dodge Chargers through the end of the 2011 season. Evernham is looked at as the leader of the Dodge movement in NASCAR, as his team was the cornerstone of Dodge's return to the sport back in 2001. "We're really glad that Ray has chosen to continue to field our Chargers," said Robert Louis Nardelli, who will become CEO of Chrysler this August. "At Dodge, we look at Evernham as our principal organization. While Penske Racing has performed stronger over the last few seasons, Ray is still the reason that we're here and we will continue to provide the best support we possibly can to the Evernham Motorsports racing team". Evernham will continue to field 3 cars next season, with Kasey Kahne in the 9, a TBD driver in the 19, and Scott Riggs in the 91. In addition, the team will continue to field one team in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, with Kahne, Riggs, and development drivers Patrick Carpentier and Chase Miller competing as well. Kahne was happy about the move, saying "I've tested some of Dodge's COTs already for next season, and let me tell you, they are real nice. I think the COT is going to level the playing field so much more and I wouldn't say that our team running in the top 15 is a stretch by any means. Dodge knows what they are doing with this."
