Here are the winners of those races:

Next race is The Winston on ABC!

1989 Winston OpenThe 1989 edition of the Winston Open was a clean and exciting affair. It has been noted by many, both drivers, fans, and commentators, that the new aero package introduced at the beginning of the season has turned Lowe's Motor Speedway into a miniature Daytona, with pack-racing, minimal braking, and high speeds prevelant. The race ran caution-free all throughout, and by the end of the race, Dick Trickle came out on top and transferred to the main event.
The field for the 1989 The Winston has been set:
#2 Dennis Malone #3 Dale Earnhardt #4 Rick Wilson #5 Geoff Bodine #9 Bill Elliott #11 Terry Labonte #13 Andy Sammonds #17 Darrell Waltrip #21 Neil Bonnett #26 Ricky Rudd #27 Rusty Wallace #28 Davey Allison #29 Dale Jarrett #30 Michael Waltrip #33 Harry Gant #42 Kyle Petty #43 Richard Petty #55 Phil Parsons #71 Dave Marcis #72 Katie Sammonds #84 Dick Trickle #94 Sterling Marlin
$1,000,000 is on the line, and the stakes have never been higher with the new aero package making things unpredictable! Who will win? Who will lose? Who will crash and burn? Stay tuned to ABC to find out!

1989 The WinstonThe fifth edition of The Winston ran on a warm May evening. The race was green all throughout, and the competition heated. Through the lead changes, the race ended with Neil Bonnett in the Wood Brothers Ford walking away a million dollars richer.
We're not going anywhere, as next weekend, the longest race in NASCAR caps off Memorial Day Weekend! And it's all on TBS Sports!

1989 Coca-Cola 600Ricky Rudd won the pole for the annual Memorial Day Weekend race. And it was a memorable weekend. Ayrton Senna took the checkered flag for the second time in the Monaco Grand Prix, and Emerson Fittipaldi took the Indianapolis 500.Throughout the race, many, many cars were beat up and/or wrecked in many crashes, one of which saw Hut Stricklin barrel roll down the apron in Turn 3. By the end of the race, Morgan Shepherd was the only car left on the lead lap, and he took home the win.Drivers swarmed Race Control and complained about the constant wrecking reminiscent of what happened at the short tracks last season (wrecking that killed short track racing in the Winston Cup series). NASCAR is investigating why so many cars wrecked and will make adjustments accordingly. In the meantime, we're off to Dover next week. See it on ESPN!Points UpdateFollowing the Coca-Cola 600, Katie Sammonds fell from second to fourth in standings, and Bobby Hillin Jr. moved to second. Andy Sammonds, despite not finishing, remains in the points lead, continuing his crusade to defend his title.Post-Race News*Congratulations to Andy Sammonds, who tied the knot with long-time girlfriend Belle Johnson in San Jose, CA on Memorial Day 1989 (Belle Johnson is not related to Jimmie Johnson). *Bobby Allison has announced retirement due to injuries sustained at Pocono last season. *Following his dismal finish, Phil Parsons is no longer eligible for the Winston Million. *Horton Motorsports was slated to make its first start at Dover next week, but NASCAR discovered HM was trying to enter Toyota Camry's. Toyota is not an approved manufacturer. HM has been barred from racing in NASCAR competition until they agree to use an American manufacturer. NASCAR will call a meeting at Dover before the Busch Grand National race on Saturday to reaffirm its "100% American Cars" policy. *Rumors are starting to spread that NASCAR has begun designing a brand-new car that could be in competition by 1999. Currently, the car is rumored to be codenamed the "SAFER Car", after the SAFER Barrier technology being developed in the wake of a fatal crash in the NASCAR Winston Modified Series at Bristol.

BREAKING: After discovering the root of cars constantly crashing on all short tracks (and certain other tracks), I will be restarting the 1989 season. Also, my section appears to have dropped off the Mock Season section. Can somebody fix this, please? I intend to restart regular updates.
