Reutimann running for ROTY with MWR Michael Waltrip Racing announced this morning that Busch Series driver David Reutimann will run for Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year in the 2008 season, running the full 36-race schedule in the #00 Toyota. Reutimann will change numbers, but continue to represent Aaron's as he will move from the #99 to the #00 upon his promotion, replacing Kenny Wallace. He will attempt to qualify for his first career Sprint Cup race next February with the season-opening Daytona 500. He attempted two races in 2003 for Larry McClure's now defunct operation, but failed to qualify for both. He will need to race his way in in the most likely scenario, as the #00 team currently sits 354 points out of the top 35. "I'm really excited to move to the Cup Series. It will definitely be odd to have a 37-year old rookie in the garage area, but I'm hoping my experience from all the Truck racing I've done will carry over to the Cup Series and I'll get the respect I deserve and the results I know I can get. We definitely think we can get the Aaron's Dream Machine to a competitive top 20 rank next season, so we are definitely looking forward to next year already," said Reutimann. "David is a great guy and I couldn't be more excited to have him representing our team in the 00 car next season," said Michael Waltrip. "I really do think that he can win a race, he's got plenty of talent and it's up to our team to give him the equipment for him to get the job done." (ESPN.com) (6/11/07)
